Marcel Jaco Auret was born on 13 September 1975 in Pretoria, South Africa, where he still resides today.
From 1985 to 1988 he received art lessons from the art teacher at the primary school that he attended. The mediums used were water colors, and pastels.
At the end of 1993, after graduating from high school, he started painting with oil colors.
His art was mainly practiced part time as he was pursuing his other passions, which are mechanical engineering and automotive design full time.
Marcel’s art style started as realism. The works that he produced during the period from 1994 to 2004 are of a super-realistic quality.
Since 2005, he has been attending art classes at the local art association. His art over the last few years has become less realistic, but more powerful.
These days Marcel’s preferred medium is charcoal on 1020mm x 770mm paper, but he still enjoys painting in oil on occasion, and will accept commissions in either one of these two mediums.
